For animal welfare, llamas are kept in the wild and by small producers and farmers in a manner appropriate to their species. The animals are sheared only by specialists in their habitat with special scissors that make these traditional techniques possible. Through the Warmi Sayajsunqo Association, llama and sheep wool is purchased directly from producers in isolated areas. From the profits from the textiles sold, the funds are used by the community (about 3,000 families) to finance health projects, resource management, crafts and education.
