We distribute products from local artisans and small businesses, mostly using ancient manufacturing techniques. In this way, we support thousands of families and businesses along the Andes Mountains, from Peru to southern Argentina, and promote fair trade in a sustainable way.
In terms of animal welfare, llamas are maintained in a manner appropriate to their species in the wild. This has been the animals' natural habitat for many generations. Animal freedom is part of the culture in these regions of the Andes.
Generally, shearing is done manually with special scissors, although there are still places in South America where more primitive elements are used for shearing. The animals are sheared only by specialists with special scissors that make these traditional techniques possible. Shearing usually takes about 20 minutes per animal and animals are usually sheared every two years. The animals are cared for by small families, farmers. Unlike mechanical shearing, the animal is sheared gently, also because the hair is not too short and therefore no longer provides sufficient protection for the animal against temperature fluctuations, precipitation, etc. at this altitude in the Andes.
