Merino wool: properties and origin

Lana merino de la Patagonia

Fair fashion that respects animals and the environment.

Merino is one of the most exclusive wools in the world, and ours comes from one of the finest sheep-farming regions: Patagonia. Its pastures are vast steppes stretching to the slopes of the Andes. In this wild, uninhabited landscape, flocks of merino sheep graze freely and undisturbed, which is why their fibre is considered one of the finest and noblest in the world. Out of love for the animals, our merino wool is mulesing-free.

Properties of merino wool

Eco-friendly – soft – warm – breathable – dirt-repellent

  • Eco-friendly: it is 100% natural fibre and biodegradable.
  • Soft and warm at the same time: thanks to its insulating capacity, it keeps you warm in winter and feels pleasant on hot days.
  • Odour-resistant: it stays fresh for days.
  • Self-cleaning: thanks to its unique fibre structure, it does not need frequent washing.

Wildlife Friendly™: the Valdés Peninsula

Our signature merino pieces come from Wildlife Friendly certified producers on the Valdés Peninsula (Patagonia, Argentina), and are then knitted and finished by hand by women artisans in family workshops.

The Valdés Peninsula is a 4,000 km² protected area, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, where people have traditionally lived from sheep farming. There, farmers are committed to combining wool production with healthy wildlife populations, following responsible standards for the sustainable use of grasslands alongside native herbivores. That is why Wildlife Friendly™ certified wool is fully traceable and processed according to certified protocols.

For other merino pieces we work with a community of women artisans and small workshops in Argentina: together we select the finest fibres, which are hand-spun and handwoven in different textures.
